On the 3rd of June, 2019 was a historic day for the Department of Computer Science in Michael and Cecilia Ibru University (MCIU) , as the National Association of Computer Science Student (NACOSS) MCIU chapter was officially inaugurated.
The event had in attendance the Vice Chancellor, Prof.Ibiyinka Fuwape, The Acting Dean of Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences, Dr.Chizoba Oladayo, the executives of NACOSS led by the South-South Coordinator. Comrade Osadolor Anthony.
The event was declared was open by Mr. Chuks of the department of computer science
The Vice Chancellor, Prof.Ibiyinka Fuwape spoke on the importance of having an organization like NACOSS in MCIU. She said Information Technology is the new goldmine in the world today and there is no area or profession that computer science does not play an integral role.
She encouraged the computer science students to be studious, diligent and see the inauguration as an opportunity for them to be part of a global network.
The South-South Coordinator of NACOSS, Comrade. Anthony Osadolor thanked the Vice Chancellor for her words of wisdom and gave the incoming executive a brief history of what NACOSS stands for.
NACOSS is a professional student body in almost all tertiary institutions in Nigeria. The Organization was founded by a group of students in July 1993 with the backing of Nigerian Computer Society (NCS). The organization was established to connect members with the reality of the industry and society in ways that will empower them and enable them to make significant impact locally and globally.
We are not just an organization; we are a team of people tasked with finding solutions to every problem in the world today. One of the benefits of being a NACOSSite is that you attend conference; you get internship opportunities and participate in international competitions.
Immediately after his speech, was the officially inauguration of the executives of the MCIU Chapter led by Comrade Anthony Osadolor who administered the Oath of Office to Comrade. Isheke Richard and his team.
Comrade Richard reiterated his commitment to making sure that NACOSS, MCIU Chapter becomes a pacesetter in the world of technology.
The programme was brought to a close by Dr.Agboje who gave a word of advice and then the closing prayer.
