It was a memorable day of football for the Michael and Cecilia Ibru University (MCIU) Football Team on the 7th of December, 2018. Being the first official away match of the MCIU football team, the excitement was palpable. A team of spirited MCIU players headed to the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE), with one goal- to make the university proud.

The match kicked off at exactly 4 pm, as the host institution drew the first blood with a wonderful shot which was punched away by MCIU’s very own Ekene Victor. The crowd were thrown into a frenzied moment when MCIU striker Bediare Andy hit the woodwork twice in a space of 5 minutes.
The referee had to caution the FUPRE players who were brutal in their tackle of the MCIU players. MCIU coach, Mr Rufus continuously charged his players to be conscious of the defence.

The first half ended in a goalless draw as the coaches of both teams gave their players a pep talk to prepare their minds for the second half.

The host team fired on all cylinders against the visiting team but the determined MCIU players stood their ground as the game ended in a stalemate. The MCIU supporters were in high spirit as they sang the praises of the players throughout the match.

Having defeated their FUPRE counterpart by 2 goals to 1 in Agbarha-Otor, the MCIU Players held their heads high with an unbeatable record against the FUPRE team. It was a game of pure passion
