The staff and students of Michael and Cecilia Ibru University filed into the CBT Centre 1 at about 10:00 am on the 6th of june 2018, for the IBM DN-A training. At 10:37 am, the PRO Mr. Lawrence Abuke introduced the principal officers present, the VC, Ag. DVC, Registrar, members of staff and students were all recognized.

The PRO then introduced the IBM official present to conduct the training, Mr. Mayowa Adeoti (University Relations Leader for Central & West Africa). He thanked everyone for coming and informed everybody that it is not a training, but awareness for the students’ and staff of MCIU about the new free online skills learning and enablement program launched by the IBM. In February 8th, 2017 IBM launched a program which is designed to reduce the level of digital illiteracy in Africa, help upcoming entrepreneurs and struggling entrepreneurs grow their business through solutions which are created by youths who are skilled developers. This program was launched because Africa has the largest number of millennials with about 200 million youth between the ages of 15 to 24 years. For convenience these programs can be used by anyone who has access to a mobile phone and is connected to the internet.

The program is called D-NA, (Digital Nation Africa) and it was launched following the success of the IBM Skills Academy, he noted that the program focus on helping the individuals gain key digital skills to help them be better positioned for the current and future job market, also it is designed to reach millions of youth in Africans.

A 20 minute- video on the evolution of IBM in 100 years was played and the orientation began in earnest.
Mr. Mayowa Adeoti informed that IBM has rebranded and is now all about 50% service, 30% software and 20% hardware. D-NA is made up of three different learning categories which are Explorer, Innovation and New collar.
Explorer is made up of:
- Artificial Intelligence (AI)
- Internet of things (IOT)
- Data Science and Analytics
- Cyber security
Innovation is for participants who wants to get inspired, design and build their business.
New collar is for participants who wants to boost their skills and get the job they want by learning and building their profile.
Watson is an online system that learns and adjust information, create a depth of awareness making use of unknown information gathered from interactions with the students, evaluate different educational information and direct students on the right courses. These will help developers and entrepreneurs find and improve solution that has high market value.
A tutorial is given to participants to help them learn and contribute, after which participants are expected to take a quiz at the end of each stage, participants who succeed in completing all the stages is awarded a certificate which can help boost their CV and will be shared to their linkedIn profile.

At this stage the training came to an end, the PRO appreciated Mr. Mayowa Adeoti for the remarkable lecture, he also acknowledged all the principal officers, staff and students’ for showing up.
