SEMINAR ON: “ENHANCING LECTURER PEDAGOGY FOR EFFECTIVENESS” ORGANISED BY QUALITY ASSURANCE DIRECTORATE OF THE MCIU

On Tuesday, 7th December, 2017, the Directorate of Quality Assurance of the Michael and Cecilia Ibru University, with the approval of senate, organized a one-day intensive seminar for all the academic staff (adjunct and full-time) on “Enhancing Lecturer Pedagogy for Effectiveness” with sub-themes as follows:

First Plenary Session: Teaching and Learning

  • Some Notable Theories of Learning and their Classroom Implications.
  • Some Notable Principles of Learning as Applied to the Classroom.

Second Plenary Session: Teaching Methodology

  • Some Notable Teaching Methods with their Unique Characteristics
  • The Lecture/Lesson Plan/Note.

(Anchored by Dr (Mrs.) C. Oladayo, Ag. Dean, Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences, MCIU).

Third Plenary Session:  Students’ Evaluation: Test Construction and Administration

(Anchored by the Registrar, Dr T. N. Kolo)

Fourth Plenary Session:  Continuous Assessment

  • Its Characteristics
  • Its Place in the Teaching-Learning Process
  • Feedback/Remediation

(Anchored by Dr P. L. Ishola, Director, Quality Assurance (EER) MCIU. The seminar was aimed at equipping the lecturers with the necessary knowledge and skills for the teaching- learning process and for them to be well acquainted with the following:

  1. Conceptual and philosophical meaning of teaching and learning as applied to the classroom.
  2. Acceptable strategies employed for the effective impartation of knowledge and skills.
  3. Construction and administration of evaluative instruments or tools to be able to adequately and effectively evaluate students.
  4. Art of continuous monitoring of students’ learning outcomes with a view to properly guiding and counselling them.

Such lecturer pedagogical training would ultimately impact on the students’ learning outcomes.
