The Michael and Cecilia Ibru University (MCIU) held her 2nd matriculation ceremony on Saturday, 4th February, 2017 at the university Multi-Purpose Hall, Power Of Faith Building. Academic procession of the matriculating students, Heads of Departments, Deans, Principal Officers of the university and the visitor/co-founder commenced at about 10.30am with the maze which is the symbol of authority
Speaking at the colorful ceremony, the Delta State Commissioner for Higher Education, Engineer Jude Sinebe commended the founders of the institution for the courage and determination exuded in not only providing quality education, but for adding to the existing tertiary institutions in the State and in Nigeria. The Honourable Commissioner who spoke through a Director in the Ministry, Mrs. B. Adolor said “since the unveiling of the university in September, 2015 the university has witnessed massive infrastructural development and actions geared towards enhancing the status of the university”. While congratulating the matriculating students and their sponsors for choosing MCIU, Commissioner Sinebe was confident that “the students could stand out significantly in the world if they apply themselves diligently.
Earlier in her address, the visitor to the institution, Dr. (Mrs.) Cecilia Ibru charged the students to place premium in their studies, noting that the world was waiting for them to manifest and bring about radical changes in the society. She admonished the students to make good use of their time stressing that “Time is the only currency and that once it is lost, it can never be recovered”.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor of the university, Dr. Daniel D. Whawo advised the students to shun negative vices such as truancy, cultism, examination mal-practice, thuggery, etc capable of truncating their academic adventures. Dr. Whawo commended the co-founder for bringing education to the door step of the students. He said that “citing the institution in a rural area such as Agbarha-Otor was a clear indication of her willingness to genuinely contribute to poverty alleviation”, praying that God’s abundant blessings rest upon her.
Administration of Matriculation Oath to Students
The high point of the ceremony was when the Registrar, Dr. T. N Kolo administered the Matriculation oath on the students after which they all signed the oath.
The focus is to bring to a close the admission exercise for the 2016/2017 Academic Session.
The day was colorful, the 200 level students and the Michael and Cecilia Foundation Demonstration secondary schools made the ceremony memorable, by entertaining students and guests with the display of chorography dance and music.
The event ended by a vote of thanks given by Dr. P. Ishola and the celebrations continued with a lot of dancing and fun-fare. It was a day to be remembered!
